The "Metro de Madrid" is one of the main public transports of the city: 12 lines and 300 stations, a great network that connects the entire city centre and the suburbs. If you decide to live in this charming city, you’ll use it a lot and it is important that you’re well informed about the lines and their stations.
If you’re lucky enough, you will read this article before looking for your new room. Use our little post to identify the line that interests you the most! By renting a room close to a metro station, your displacements will be easier and quicker. Do not underestimate the importance of the public transports. So many advantages and so little effort. The only thing that you have to do is to collect information (we simplify this task by providing you some links and assistance) and choose thelocation of the accommodation (we have already selected some of the best housing solutions; have a look at our offer!).
Before starting our “metro lines’ description”, let’s take a step back and have a look at the history of the Metro de Madrid. The project was the designed by the engineers Carlos Mendoza, Antonio Gonzalez Echarte y Miguel Otamendi. In 1919, King Alfonso XIII inaugurated the first line: it was 3.48 km long and connected Puerta del Sol and Cuatro Caminos. Everything started with 8 stations and since that moment the development of this mean of transportations increased significantly. Where did we end up? To 12 efficient lines that will bring us from one end of Madrid to the other, from 6.00 AM to 1.30 AM every day of the year.
The Metro de Madrid offers this and much more. Actually, some stations has a free library lending service called “Bibliometro”. Chamartin, Nuevos Ministerios, Embajadores, Moncloa, Legazpi are some of the stations that offer this service that promotes culture and literature. This is a great idea, isn’t it? Have a look at the catalogue and find your next reading.
Another interesting initiative are the Andén 0 the suburban museums. The first one is a project that shows the history of the railway in Madrid. When it comes to the museums, there are three interesting options: the Canos del Peral Museum, the Paleontological site at Carpetana Station and the Old Forecourt of Pacifico Station. This is actually something new for us, too. Nonetheless, they seem to be extremely interesting and they are surely worth a visit… we will let you know!

Our suggestions? No matter what, try to find your room or flat close to a station of the most useful line (according to your needs). One change is better the two and no changes at all are even better. As we have already advised in several of our articles, the location of your accommodation is super important, especially when you live in a big city like Madrid. If you choose the wrong neighbourhood, you may need more than our hour to go to the university or to go to work.
