Tips to survive in a shared flat

Hola  readers,

We are finally going to write about something we probably know better than any other issue: shared flats! If you’ve read any of our blogs before, you’ve probably noticed how much we love co-living and today, we’re giving you some tips to survive in a shared flat, why we think it is the best option for students and young adults and how to make the most out of your time in a shared flat.

As always, if you’re looking for an accommodation in Madrid, you should check out the neighborhoods in the city so you can find the best one for you. Check out our blogs to go with us as we walk through the neighborhoods, detailing museums and monuments, ways to spend your free time, and services provided in the area.

We all know that choosing where you live in a new city is a very important decision but deciding whether you share your home with someone else is just as, if not more, important because it will also affect your entire experience. Your life and time here will be totally different if you live with others than if you live on your own.

You may be asking why we think a shared flat is the right choice for you. Let’s take a look at a few reasons we think this is best.

  1. Living in a shared flat is typically cheaper than living alone. Instead of paying for things like power on your own, you will be able to split these up amongst your flat mates giving you more money to spend on food or travel.

  2. If you’re new to the city or country, it can be intimidating to not know anyone in the area, but shared flats make it very easy to meet new people. Don’t worry, those of us that like to spend a lot of time alone, may find this time a little harder to come by in a shared flat, but it’s definitely not impossible.

  3. Another big reason to live in a shared flat is that it can help you make lifelong friends you wouldn’t have met otherwise. Having the ability to spend so much time with these people will help you form bonds unlike those you have made in the past.

Well, the downside (or maybe not) is that you will have to work on your patience to fill gaps and differences between the personalities!

Now we have some tips to help you make the most out of your time in a shared flat.

  1. Communication. The number one thing you need to do in a shared flat is communicate. If you lack good communication within your flat, people will end up frustrated and fighting, so establishing this early on can help you avoid many problems later, when tension builds over something small.

  2. Sharing is caring. Going along with communication, sharing the work is incredibly important. Nobody likes to clean up other people’s messes, and you’re all in this boat together, so talk about how you guys can share work in the flat and separate space. This can help begin setting some boundaries, so no one’s toes get stepped on.

  3. Open-minded approach. The best way to grow as a person is to explore other people’s cultures. While you’re in a shared flat, embrace the people around you! You can learn about other places and people, while teaching others about yourself. Be open-minded; take this opportunity to grow while you can.

  4. Keep in touch with the people you meet. Even if you aren’t best friends with everyone you live with, becoming friends with everyone can only benefit you in the future. You never know when you may need someone’s help.

  5. Privacy respect. Our last tip for the day it to respect the privacy of others. If you respect other people’s stuff, they will be more likely to respect yours. If you don’t want other people eating your food or using your stuff, talk about it and be respectful to them too.

Thanks for checking out our blog today, we hope we helped you decide on a shared flat! Remember, for more information about the city, look at the rest of our blogs
