The hot weather is here, but we can’t stop our walk through the several and beautiful neighbourhoods in Madrid. So, let’s go on!
Barrio Chamartín is a large area split into 6 smaller regions within. Though it lies on the northern edge of central Madrid, this area is a very important district, holding some key elements of the city. This modern section of Madrid is home to El Viso, Hispanoamérica, Nueva España, Castilla, Ciudad Jardin, and Prosperidad; all distinctive regions that bring their own benefits to the table.
If you are a student or young worker looking for a quieter area to live, Chamartín could be the neighborhood for you. When walking through Chamartín today, we are going to first look at monuments and museums; then, move onto things you can do in your free time; and finally, end on the services available in the neighborhood. Follow us.
Monuments and Museums
There are a few museums within Chamartín, but one of the most interesting is Arte Canal Exhibition Center, found in the Nueva España region. With exhibitions changing every few years, you can always stop by to learn something new. Currently, there is an Auschwitz exhibition held there with artifacts and hard truths at its center. Previously, they have hosted exhibitions based around Cleopatra and the ancient Egyptians, and Hernán Cortés.
Just south of this museum, you can find what may be the most notable monument in Chamartín, Monumento a José Calvo Sotelo. This monument, along with its view of the Gate of Europe, is an incredible sight. If you’re closer to the city center, perhaps in El Viso, check out the monuments around the Plaza San Juan de la cruz.
When outside the museums and away from the monuments, it’s impossible to miss Cuatro Torres, the 4 tallest skyscrapers in Spain. These buildings work to symbolize the modern areas of Madrid, proudly displaying the business district in the city.
Free Time
Once you’ve visited the monuments and seen the museums, you’re going to be looking for something else to do. Don’t worry, Chamartín has a few excellent spots for you to visit. In the Hispanoamérica region of the neighborhood, Santiago Bernabéu Stadium–the home stadium of Real Madrid, and one of the most famous football venues in the world–can be toured during most days of the week.
If you’re not a football fan or you’re simply looking for a place to study, head to Ciudad Jardin, the Garden City. This region holds Parque de Berlin, a park walked mainly by locals. This historic park displays pieces of the Berlin Wall, still holding their original graffiti. A historical site, the park contains a precise mix of monuments and the natural world. This park is perfect for relaxation in the city, but it also holds an open-air auditorium filled with music and events in the summer.
Services
Your daily life in Chamartín will be a breeze with ample access to anything you could need in each of its regions. This peaceful side of the city offers metro stops around its entire boundary and along its main streets. A wide variety of food can be found no matter where you are in the neighborhood. Supermarkets are heavily abundant in the southern side of Chamartín but dot the northern side as well. Similarly, ATMs and banks can be found throughout the barrio with no issue.
