So, stadiums, right? As mentioned above, we will talk about the history and the features of three stadiums located in Madrid. All of you know perfectly the name of the stadiums I am talking about. The old Calderon, the famous Bernabeu and the brand new Wanda Metropolitano (not that new, by the way): today, with helpMadrid, you will visit these three stadiums.

Santiago Bernabéu Stadium
Let’s begin with the oldest stadium, that, by coincidence, is also the one with the highest seating capacity (81044 seats). Seventy-one years ago opened the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and, since 1947, it is the home stadium of Real Madrid.

Curious facts:
- The first player to score in the new stadium was Sabino Barinaga.
- It is the first Stadium in Europe to host a Copa Libertadores final.
Vicente Calderón Stadium
This stadium unfortunately has been active only for 51 years (1966-2017) and hosted the Atletico Madrid. Smaller that the Bernabéu, it is located though in a spectacularly beautiful area, close to both Madrid Rio and the Royal Palace. As it is going to be demolished (unless a change of plans), we kindly suggest you to have a tour of this historical stadium.
Location: Arganzuela district.

- The M-30 dual carriageway passes below a part of the stadium
- It has hosted 14 Copa del Rey finals.
Metropolitano Stadium
This is the most recent stadium: built for the first time in 1994, it has been renovated and re-opened in 2017. It is the home stadium of Atletico Madrid and, therefore, has become one of the most famous stadiums in Madrid and, possibly, in Spain.
Location: San Blas-Canillejas district.
Curious facts:
- It changed name several times and today it is called Wanda Metropolitano, due to its sponsor.
- Originally, it has been built to host the World Athletics Championship in 1997. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned.
