Why should you know how to write a CV in Spanish? It’s easy: all along these years working with erasmus students, providing people from all over the World with our accommodations, we have met a lot of dreamers.
What do we mean? That many of you, guys, fall in love with this amazing city, wishing to come back as soon as possible. How? Well, looking for a job here!
And since we would love to help you to apply for it and reach your goals, here there are some tips and suggestions for you to prepare a curriculum that will give you the best chance to find work in Spain.
First of all, if you already have a CV in english or in your native language, not only you should adapt it in Spanish, but you should also learn some local etiquette to match the expectations of a spanish-styled curriculum.
One more important thing to consider: currently the job market in Spain is dynamic, competitive and this means you need to distinguish yourself. The CV speaks out about you, so it must be the more likely to the reality. At the same time, it has to be catchy, clear, concise and no more than two sides of A4. Keep it as professional as possible and use bullet points to highlight skills and experience...they’re way better than long and wordy paragraphs rather than wordy paragraphs.
Now, set up your CV in the following order:
- Personal details (datos personales):
- Full name - nombre y apellido
- Date of birth - fecha de nacimiento
- City/Country of birth - ciudad/País de nacimiento
- Current address - dirección de residencia
- Telephone number - número de móvil
- NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) - if you already have it, you can put this number that authorises you to work in Spain.
- Photo: even if in many countries is not a compulsory thing, in Spain it’s common to include a picture of you. It must be a professional one (neutral background, placed in the top corner, on the right).
- Personal summary: it’s not required, but it’s a nice and catchy brief overview about you, your career history or goals
- Work experience (experiencia laboral): list the companies you have worked for, mentioning your task and responsibilities. The chronological order should begin from the most recent to the first ones.
- Education (formación academica): list the post-secondary institutions with addresses, dates and qualifications
- Languages (idiomas): write here the languages you know, specifying the spoken and written levels and attaching any certificate you have.
- Skills (informática y habilidades personales): list here computer, software, IT skills and all the personal skills that can’t miss when it comes to the work environment
- Teamwork - trabajo en equipo
- Ability to take decisions - toma de decisiones
- Communication skills - capacidad de comunicación
- Perseverance with goals - constancia para obtener resultados deseados
- Other interests (aficiones): here you can put any other information that you think it’s relevant or linked to your job application
