What you cannot miss in April!

What you cannot miss in April! helpMadrid agenda is back with all the plans, the concerts, the exhibitions, vintage movies, great novels and… You do not need to read further, we have spoilered you the entire blog post ahahah. Kidding aside, we cannot wait to begin this amazing month with you.

Actually, we are ready to welcome April and its sunny days and, despite the seasonal allergies, we cannot wait to enjoy spring in Madrid. We may not have the sea, but a picnic or a walk in the Retiro Park have got nothing on an afternoon by the seaside. If you are still thinking about moving abroad and you are reading this blog to collect information about Madrid, make the right choice and move to Madrid. It is as easy as a walk in the park:

  1. First step, plan your budget.
  2. Second, choose your
  3. Third, look for your shared flat.

As you may have noticed, we have mentioned shared flats. Shared flats are the best housing solution for students and young workers who decide to move abroad. There are actually many good reasons to choose this housing solution. In order to help you sort them out, helpMadrid has listed some of them. Are you ready?

  1. You can share the expenses
  2. You will meet international people.
  3. You can practice Spanish or English

International friends. Friends to spend some unforgettable months in Madrid. Friends to travel around Spain. Spain to discover the city and take part in the events we will list below. After this “prologue”, we are ready to provide you with some of the best events in Madrid and with our favourites (that, by the way, this month are amazing).

 Events and more

Alberto Giacometti: as we have found plans only for later April, we have decided to suggest you an exhibition offered by the Prado Museum. Alberto Giacometti, a Swiss artist and one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century

26 April_Ópera, pasion, poder y politica: are you ready to visit all the major theatres in Europe? This exhibition will explore art by including it in a city and in its historical period.

26 April_La noche de los libros: every single event connected with books must be on our agenda. As many of you already know, we are bookworms. Therefore, we cannot miss this long night dedicated to our beloved books.

26-28 April_Mulafest: Mulafest is back! The Mulafest is considered one of the most important urban trends Spanish festival: it offers good music, street food, art, photography, performances and workshops

Every Thursday_Meet and Speak: raise your hand if you wish to practice Spanish, English and any other language you would like to learn. Nightlife Madrid, among its amazing parties and events, has planned for you a language exchange night, a chance to meet international people and have fun by learning a language.

 March favourites

To eat

  • Tia Carlota: this is the tasty discovery of the month. Whether you are vegan or not, you will enjoy the tasty dishes offered by this pretty restaurant. Besides the uncommon recipes and the sweet made by a vegan Dulce de Leche, you will certainly appreciate the interior design. We went there few weeks ago for the first time and it became immediately one of our favourite vegan restaurants.

To watch

  • China Gate: if you have easy access to new films because of the Oscars, festivals and advertising, it may be more difficult to run into old masterpieces. Therefore, we have selected this film produced in 1957. The film is set during the French Indochina War and it talks about the story of a group of French Foreign Legion mercenaries that infiltrate to destroy an arms depot of the enemy. At the beginning we were sceptical, but we have really enjoyed the view of this “vintage” masterpiece.
  • Twin Peaks: Twin Peaks, a mystery horror drama series, dates back 1990 and, after the great success of the first season, it ended after a less popular second season. In 2017, Lynch and Frost decided to continue the series. Actually, the reason why we like this TV series so much are the first two seasons: grotesque and mystery will take your breath away.

To read

  • Stoner by John Williams: when we think of a page-turning novel, Stoner is always on our list. The protagonist is an English literature scholar and professor with a calm and ordinary life until… We do not want to spoiler more details, but this story of ineptitude is worth your time and may be a good way to approach American literature. (ES)
  • Los años de Allende by Rodrigo y Carlos Reyes: this graphic novel is your chance to learn more about Allende in an easy and entertaining way. Even if it is hard to remember the details of each event, you will have an overview of what happened during the years of his governance. If you are curious and you appreciate drawings, this graphic novel may be perfect for you. Moreover, if you do not master Spanish, you will not have many problems reading it (drawings help and there is only few text). (ES)

To visit

  • Segovia: do you remember the fairy tale castles? Segovia has one, too, and this is a very very very good reason to visit this little town not too far from Madrid. One of the main attraction of Segovia is the Roman aqueduct, heritage that made the city one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. We have a tasty suggestion for vegans; it is time to suggest something tasty for the omnivores, too: Segovia is famous for its “cochinillo asado” and, needless to say, you have to taste it at least once in your life. Citylife Madrid offers you the chance to visit Segovia, taste the cochinillo in the renowned restaurant and discover El Escorial, the monastery/palace/burial ground outside Madrid. Kill two birds with one stone and book the trip with them. Here the link.
