August in Madrid: don’t miss the Street festivals!

If you’re already in Madrid, you must know it: our most traditional “verbenas” (a.k.a. street festivals that celebrate the patron saints of some neighborhoods/areas of Madrid) will be held this month! Keep reading so you won’t miss any detail.

There are 3 classic street festivals or “verbenas” in August, and all of them happen in neighborhoods that are really close to each other: Embajadores/Rastro, Lavapiés and La Latina. Everything starts with “las fiestas de San Cayetano”, in Embajadores, from the 2nd to the 8th of August. Right after, from the 9th to the 11th, you will find in Lavapiés “las fiestas de San Lorenzo”, and with the 15th of August holiday you will find the most famous “Verbena de la Paloma”, from the 12th to the 15th.

But… what is a “verbena”?

Well, our traditional street festival with typical food, people dressed up with the typical garments, decorations on the streets, party, live music and concerts, tapas, street life and lots of fun! It’s a Madrid experience you cannot miss if you’re already here.

There are tons of activities and things scheduled for these 2 intense summer weeks, so here you have the program for not missing anything!

Enjoy!
