Madrid, proud host of the World Pride 2017

This summer, the city top event is –without a doubt– the World Pride, the biggest Gay Pride even in the world, and we will celebrate together the diversity we have in our city. From the 23rd of June to the 2nd of July, we will have an amazing week full of entertainment. Don’t miss a thing!

The Gay Pride has always been a must in Madrid, with a lot of cultural activities, concerts and open-air parties. Besides, this year our city has been selected to host for the first time the World Pride since Madrid is well-known for its best Gay Pride celebration from years ago.

What you cannot miss

During these 10 days you will have the chance to attend to an endless list of activities! In order to help you to plan your week, we will share our favorites. The first remarkable even is the opening of Madrid Summit, the International Conference on Human Rights of the World Pride. It starts on Monday the 26th of June.

The festival will officially start on Wednesday the 28th with the Proclamation of Gay Pride, on Pedro Zerolo Square.

Of course, you cannot miss the amazing High Heels Race 2017, which will take place in calle Pelayo on Thursday the 29th of June at 18:00 h. Will you dare to run it?

Besides, during these days you will see concerts with music from all over the world, from ‘flamenco’ to African music, and also dance and arts performances. There will be 5 stages located in different squares in the city center: Plaza de Pedro Zerolo, Plaza del Rey, Plaza de España, Puerta del Sol y Puerta de Alcalá, where we will have the chance to witness different events. Check the official World Pride site to be up to date of all the events of these stages.

Regarding cultural events, we will be able to visit temporary exhibitions related with the LGTB community in CentroCentro Cibeles, in Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza, in Museo de América and Matadero de Madrid. There’ll be a space for sports too! We will have the Diversity Run, which will take place for the first time on the 25th of June, and the Pride Games, from the 23rd to the 25th of June.

Last but not least, you cannot miss the Gay Pride Parade, the most important and especial event of the week. It will take place on the 1st of July and will go through one of the main artery of the city. Also the World Pride Closing Gala will be the best option for saying goodbye to this amazing event! It will be held on the 2nd of July.

Live the moment! How to move around and where to live

Regarding this especial occasion, Madrid Metro will open 24h on the 1st of July, so it will be a great option. Besides, for the rest of the days you can use Metro until 1:30 am and also rely on EMT buses and ‘buhos’ (owls), the late-night bus version. Keep in mind that, if you find a place to stay in the city center, you won’t need to take any transportation as Madrid is easily walkable and all the Gay Pride events happen in the downtown.

About where to live, if you’re trying to find a hotel room in the city center for these dates, it might be kind of difficult as we expect a lot of visitors during that week.
