Sweet Carnival Treats

Sweet Carnival Treats

February means Carnival; therefore, Carnival will be the topic of the “tasty” column of this month. Do you know all sweet delicacies that make us gain some kilos and that force us to go to the gym? Perfect, this month we will talk exactly about them and, from the gym point of view, we are doing you a favour: physical activity is always important! By the way, we are so happy to be back with a tasty post, aren’t you? Actually, it is tasty and sweet… The perfection!

But, (there must be a “but”, otherwise we cannot go on with our blog post ahahah), treats taste better if you share them with someone. helpMadrid knows how to make you live unforgettable sweet moments. As we are used to, here our suggestion.

In order to enjoy to the fullest your tasty treats, we suggest you to share your flat with somebody, even better if he/she is international. Shared flats are the perfect housing solution for students and young workers. They are not only affordable, they are also perfect to meet new people, discover a new culture and share your Carnival sweets! Enough reasons to rent a shared flat, right? If you are not convinced, feel free to check our blog post and our beautiful renovated shared flats…

Should we go back to our sweet treats? As we do not want to have you waiting too long, here our list of sweet Carnival treats!

Leche Frita

Why is this the first sweet treat of our list? Because it is definitely our favourites. It reminds us our childhood (even though we are not Spanish) and it is extremely sweet. It is fried milk: simple, traditional and tasty. No more words needed… Just taste it and let us know if you like it as much as we do.

Torrijas

These are the favourite Carnival treats of one of our architects. Actually, if you do not like them, consider him as responsible for the negative experience! We are kidding, of course. These traditional and ancient sweet dates back to Roman times and it was originally prepared for the labouring moms due to its high calories content. Despite the simplicity and the poor ingredients, they are very very very good!

Sopas de miel

Bread, water, sugar, lemon peel, cinnamon, anise, almonds and honey. These are the ingredients of these amazing pastries. Actually, we have not tasted them yet, but the description, the reviews and the ingredients give us hope that these sopas will be absolutely unforgettable in our palates!

Casadielles

Fried pastry dough of 15 cm with anise and walnuts. Tasty? Of course. Sweet? What a question! Should you taste them? Definitely. Being this treat from the Asturias, it may be complicated to find them here in Madrid. This is not a big problem as you can look for a receipt and make them on your own! They are unbelievably tasty…

Orejas de Carnaval

Last, but not least, another fried delicacy that you have to taste. They are nothing more than fried rectangles with a little bit of powdered sugar. As always, simplicity wins!

Mouth-watering? We know you do! And we know you cannot wait for Carnival… While waiting for all these sweet treats, we have already begun to go jogging. Even though it is still freezing outside, the Retiro Park makes this “sacrifice” less dreadful. All this to enjoy as many Carnival sweets as possible. We are a little bit crazy, aren’t we? Ahahah.

By the way, if you share your sweets, you will have to make less physical activity to burn extra fat. Therefore, if you are still looking for your new home away from home, we kindly suggest having a look at our shared flats. This is a great solution for penniless students and young workers (maybe interns) that cannot afford an entire apartment on their own. Moreover, even though you could perfectly pay for an entire flat, they are good to meet people: if you are all alone in a new city or in a new country, this is the fastest way to make new friends without even going out. helpMadrid has always such great solutions… Wait, we have always such great suggestions!

As it has been a while since we have finished our list and since we have promised to our readers to be less wordy (one of the New Year’s resolutions), we say goodbye to our beloved readers and we wish you a super tasty Carnival. Our “tasty” column will be back in a month, meanwhile do not miss the other blog posts… We are planning great things for you!
