What you cannot miss in December!

What you cannot miss in December!

“What you cannot miss in December”, our agenda is finally back. Thanksgiving is over, Cyber Monday too and December is here. Do you know what does this mean? It means that it is Christmas time! Candy, biscuits, cinnamon scent, Christmas lights and present everywhere: create the right atmosphere to read our Christmassy blog post.

Our favourite celebration of the years is coming and helpMadrid has selected for you many Christmassy plans.

“Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh,…”

Christmas is relatively fat, but this does not prevent us from playing a Christmas song! It will not prevent you from decorating your room either. Have you already bought a Christmas tree and all the pretty decorations? Your shared flat needs it ahahah. Kidding aside it may be a great activity to spend time with your flatmates, isn’t it? A shared flat offers you the chance to experience a new different and special Christmas. You can create a cosy atmosphere and spend great evenings all together with hot chocolate, cookies and candles.

All this remember us of our experiences abroad! Do not miss the chance to create yours. As helpMadrid always remembers you, when you look for an accommodation, choose shared flats. They are a great solution to share expenses and spend great moments with other students or young workers from all over the world. Imagine living with people from many different countries. You could discover new traditions and make them yours, too!

“Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.”

We know we are rambling so… Are you ready for our Christmassy agenda?

FOOD

Pic&Nic

You can eat there and taste its delicious dishes all year around. We had to add this restaurant to the list, though. Why? Because… drumroll… now you can taste the sandwich Ross was in love with, one of the main character of the TV series “Friends”. This is a very good reason to organize a meeting with all your flatmates and taste the famous sandwich. What should you order? A The Ross!

Polvorones

The name is, let’s say, peculiar, but the taste is, let’s say, terrific! These treats are cookies and they get their name from the world “polvo”. Why? Well, these cookies tend to crumble into powder. You may have noticed them everywhere, at least if you live in Spain: they are those fancy sweets wrapped in colourful wax paper. This is brilliant to help you avoid eating thousands of them!

ART

Mad about Hollywood

4 December – 13 January These Christmas holidays will have a special allure here in Madrid. This exhibition is about the Hollywood stars who lived or spent some time in Madrid and it is divided in two sections: “On the Set” and “Off the set”.

Nomada Market Hello Christmas Edition

14-16 December This is an event that every designer will appreciate: it is a design trade fair and, as it is independent, may be particularly interesting. Moreover, it will be a Christmas Special Edition… Who knows what they might old!

EVENTS AND PLANS

Ted X Talk

10 December It is not a Christmas plan, but a Ted Talk is worth some lines of our post. For personal experience, these talks are extremely interesting and this one may be perfect for our generation. Here the title: “Neuroscience of digital distractions”. Here the time: h 18.30. If you really have no time to go to this talk, we suggest you to have a look at their web and watch some of their videos… You never stop learning!

Pasacalles de Luz (Parade)

21 December What is a Pasacalle? It is a parade and, in this case, a lights’ parade! We love lights and shiny decorations and this is the reason why we have added it to our list! This event takes place from h 19.00 to h 22.00… Save the date!

“Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
Through the fields we go
Laughing all the way.”

What do you think about these events? We are so excited… December is finally here with all its lights and all its sweets!

“Bells on bob-tail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.”

To do: decorate your shared flat! Just to get into the Christmas spirit… If you are still looking for a cosy home to decorate, helpMadrid has a Christmas present under the tree! Have a look at our cosy flats and cool rooms and begin your experience abroad with us. What else can you ask for?

Our themed posts do not stop here! This month we will entertain you with other Christmassy information and tips. Therefore, stay tuned!

For the time being… Let’s sing…

 “Jingle bells, jing-jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, brruup…”

 (Song: “Jingle bells”)
