You won’t believe you’re in Madrid: 5 one-day trips to escape from the concrete jungle

Aranjuez

It’s in the southern area of Madrid, you can get there by public transportation (train from Sol, it will take around 50 min) and you will feel somewhere else but not in Madrid!

Alcalá de Henares

It’s in the southern-east of Madrid, and you can get there also by train (around 50 min from Sol) and it’s a great destination for spending the day –and for tapas!–.

San Lorenzo de el Escorial

You can get there by bus (from Intercambiador de Moncloa, it’s a straight bus and it will take arund 50 min also), and you will enjoy the stunning views!

La Hiruela

This one is a little further and you cannot get there by public transportation, you would need to rent a car if you don’t have one, and it will take about an hour and a half to get there. It’s a little old village in the mountains on Madrid, it’s really picturesque, the perfect destination for a city break.

Buitrago de Lozoya

You can get there by bus (straight from Plaza de Castilla, around 1 hour and 15 min trip), but the views are worthy. It’s also a little village of the outskirts of Madrid, and its rampart –which it’s really well preserved– it’s considered a National Monument.
